7 Dimensions of Wellness

A Holistic Approach to Senior Care

Intergenerational

Our residents are able to interact with multiple generations of people to fulfill their desire for meaningful life engagements with others of all ages. According to a 2011 Daniel R. George study, groups that participated with intergenerational volunteers demonstrated significant decreases in stress.

Community Connections

We encourage residents to continue to serve others. This instills a sense of purpose and engages the local community in our programming. Our Board of Advisors contributes to our community connections. According to a 2011 Daniel R George study, groups that participated with intergenerational volunteers demonstrated significant decreases in stress.

Intellectual

This engages residents on a cognitive level. Our One Week University program engages residents in lectures from top professors and local resources. We believe that learning doesn’t end the day you reach retirement age; it’s a lifelong process. According to the 2019 Alzheimer’s Facts and Figures, studies suggest that remaining mentally active throughout life may support brain health and possibly reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Spiritual

Spiritual activities aid in the psychological and emotional well being of our residents. We provide times of meditation, song, and prayer in an atmosphere that is open to our residents' diverse spiritual traditions. According to a study by Elizabeth MacKinlay and Corinne Trevitt in the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, spiritual reminiscence assists residents to find meaning in life in the present, and develop strategies to accept changes of later life, including losses of significant relationships.

Social

We provide opportunities for residents to engage in the specific recreational activities they enjoy, including dominoes, checkers, card games, art, and musical memories. According to the 2019 Altzheimer's Facts and Figures, studies suggest that remaining socially active throughout life may support brain health and possibly reduce the risk of Altzheimer's and other dementias.

Emotional

Emotional wellness implies having an optimistic approach to life and enjoying life despite the occasional disappointments and frustrations. We encourage residents to engage in programs and to be active.

Physical

Physical exercise is shown to slow physical deterioration while reducing the risk of falls. According to the 2019 Alzheimer’s Facts and Figures, brain health is affected by the health of the heart and blood vessels. Although it makes up just two percent of body weight, the brain consumes twenty percent of the body’s oxygen and energy supplies. Researchers have found that factors that protect the heart may also protect the brain and reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
